Koper is a small town located close to the border to Italy.
Where You're Docked
Cruise ships dock in town beside the marina. It is an easy (but up the stairs) five minute walk to the town center at Tito Square.
Money and Tipping
Since Koper is very small, you can also visit the scenic town of Piran to the west. Buses depart from the train station about 1 km south of the Muda Gate. They leave every 20-30 minutes, the journey time is 45 minutes and the fare is €3.10. Bus schedules here http://www.koper.si/index.php?page=static&item=2002075&tree_root=4
Alternatively, you can take a bus out to Trieste, Italy which takes about an hour. Buses cost €3.10 and do not run on Sunday and Italian Public Holidays.
Slovenia's small but scenic capital of Ljubljana can also be reached by bus (90 minutes) or train (2h 20min).
A Hop-On Hop-Off tour bus runs between the towns of Koper – Izola – Piran – Portorož when cruise ships are docked. Schedule and pricing here http://www.istranka.si/en/shore-excursions-koper/english-hop-on-hop-off/
