Introduction

Manama is the capital of Bahrain and is located on an archipelago in the Persian Gulf bordered by Qatar and Saudi Arabia. It is considered more liberal and western friendly than other Middle East countries.

Where You're Docked

Cruise ships mainly dock at Khalifa Bin Salman Port with a modern cruise terminal and duty free store (with alcohol). Shuttles may be provided to City Center Mall 45 minutes away in downtown Manama. For crew, there is a modern and large seaman's center around the corner with internet, lounges and a small shop. Mina Salman Port closer to the city may also be used for cruise ships.

Money and Tipping

Bahrain's currency is the Dinar which is pegged to the US Dollar. One Dinar is equal to $2.66 USD. US dollars may be accepted at most places. A tip of 10-15% when dining at restaurants is appreciated.

Local Transportation

There are public buses but these are not recommended for visitors since it is difficult to figure out the routes. If using a taxi, make sure they use the meter.
