Introduction

Bay of Islands is a region on the north tip of New Zealand.

Visas

As of Oct 1 2019, travellers from most countries will need to apply for a NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) linked to your passport. It is valid for multiple entries and two years. https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas

Where You're Docked

Ships anchor and tender passengers to Waitangi Wharf northwest of the main town of Paihia. Shuttles are usually provided though it is a pleasant 25 minute walk along the beach to town with one small hill.

Money and Tipping

New Zealand's currency is the New Zealand Dollar (NZD). Like Australia, prices displayed are inclusive of all taxes. Tipping is not necessary.

Paihia is a very small town with only a couple of main streets.

Sights

Shopping & Restaurants

Shops, restaurants, and a post office can be found in the small town center in Pahia. There is a small supermarket in town but a larger Countdown supermarket on Puketona Rd off the roundabout midway between the wharf and town.

Internet

The small public library has free WiFi but it is a weak signal which can only be accessed outside. There are some internet cafes in town and by the beach.
