Money exchange can be found on Jew Street though US dollars are widely accepted. Tipping 10-15% is customary in India. Taxis do not expect to be tipped though a small amount is appreciated for good service. In Nov 2016, 500 and 1,000 notes were withdrawn from circulation though the 1,000 note may be re-introduced.
Local TransportationTuk-tuk drivers will be waiting by the port gate to take visitors for a tour of the old town. They are reluctant to take you anywhere else other than on this tour. There is a ferry pier north of Ernakulam wharf that can take you to Ernakulam Park or to Fort Kochi.
