Money and Tipping

Australia's currency is the Australian dollar (AUD). Bills are plastic with coins for $2 and under. Australia has eliminated the penny and cash transactions are rounded up or down to the nearest nickel. Taxes are inclusive on sticker prices of items and tipping is not common. Money exchange can be done at any bank. When changing money, make sure you get a good rate and don't pay commission. ATM's are readily available. Tipping is not customary in Australia.

Local Transportation

There is no public transport and taxis are limited.

You will need to take a tour to see any of the sights in the area.

  • Ningaloo Marine Park - a fringe reef with excellent snorkeling accessible from the beach (unlike the Great Barrier Reef)
  • Cape Range National Park
  • Swim with migrating whale sharks (seasonal)
  • Novotel Ningaloo Resort - located right beside the tender pier. Have a drink or meal and use their pool.

Shopping & Restaurants

The town center has a small central area and a few restaurants. There isn't much here. There is an IGA supermarket right in the town center.

Internet

One of the dive shops and some restaurants may have internet access.
