Money and Tipping

Hawaii is a US state. When dining in restaurants, it is customary to leave 15-20% tip for good service since servers typically make minimum wage. Taxi drivers should be tipped the same rate. Banks and ATM's can be easily found in the city center.

Local Transportation

Lahaina is fairly small and walkable. You will need to rent a car or take a taxi to explore areas further out.

Sights

  • Banyan Tree Park - This tree occupies the whole block at the center of the city.
  • Kaanapali Beach - A popular and beautiful beach three miles to the north. You can take the Maui Bus #25 for $2 one way or $4 all day ticket (Jan 2017). Bus info here. https://www.mauicounty.gov/605/Bus-Service-Information Another option is the Sugar Cane Train. http://www.sugarcanetrain.com Update - according to the website, the train is closed until 2017

Shopping & Restaurants

Shops and restaurants can be found along Front St. Try Whalers and ABC stores for Hawaiian souvenirs. There is a Foodland supermarket at Old Lahaina Center and a Safeway further north. Hard Rock Cafe Maui is 0.5 miles north on Front St.

Try Hulu Pie made with macadamia nut ice cream at Kimo's in Lahaina Town or Leilani's at Kaanapali Beach.
