Mazatlan, Mexico

Downtown Mazatlan

Introduction

Mazatlan is a popular resort destination.

Where You're Docked

Cruise ships dock about a mile east of centro old downtown. Most visitors head to the beaches in the Golden Zone further west. The port gate is right on the main street outside. Though old downtown is not too far, remember it will be very hot outside.

Money and Tipping

Mexico's currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN) though US dollars are widely accepted. You may get change back in Pesos however. You can exchange money at any bank with ID. A tip of 15-20% is expected when dining in restaurants. Taxi drivers do not expect to be tipped though a little extra is appreciated for good service.

Local Transportation

Open air taxis, pulmonas, wait at the terminal for passengers though regular taxis should be cheaper outside. Prices need to be negotiated beforehand but drivers will ask for $10 or more to go to Centro or to the beaches. They may drop the price if you walk outside the gate.
