Napier is a town hit by an earthquake in 1931 and rebuilt in its now famous art deco style.


As of Oct 1 2019, travellers from most countries will need to apply for a NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) linked to your passport. It is valid for multiple entries and two years. https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas

Where You're Docked

Shuttles will take passengers the short distance from the pier to the center of town dropping off near the i-site visitor information office.

Money and Tipping

New Zealand's currency is the dollar (NZD). Like Australia, prices displayed are inclusive of all taxes. Tipping is not necessary.

Local Transportation

Napier is a very small town with only a couple of main streets.

  • Art Deco Buildings - Visit the i-site tourist info center to purchase an art deco self guided walking map.
  • Carillon Memorial - located at Clive Square at the end of Emerson St, it chimes every half hour.

Shopping & Restaurants

The main shopping street is Emerson Street. It is only partially pedestrianized so be careful of traffic and don't wander in front of cars.

There is a Countdown supermarket just past Clive Square.


Cafes and restaurants may provide free wifi for customers.
