Ponta Delgada is the largest city in the Azores on the island of Sao Miguel. The Azores is a Portuguese territory.

Where You're Docked

Cruise ships dock in town at Portas do Mar, a newer terminal beside the marina. It is a bit of a walk along the quay but a shuttle may be provided.

Money and Tipping

Portugal's currency is the Euro (EUR). In Europe, it is common to round up the bill to leave a small tip (5-10%).

Local Transportation

There is a mini-bus network in the downtown area but it is suggested to take a tour to see sights on the island.

• Baixa (downtown) and City Gates
• Lagoa das Sete Cidades (Lagoon of the Seven Cities) - twin green and blue lakes inside a caldera northwest of Ponta Delgada.

The cruise terminal area and downtown have shops and restaurants. Solmar Avenida Center is a small mall across from the cruise terminal. Check the map below for the location of a supermarket. Try some locally grown pineapples.
