Roatan, Honduras

Mahogany Bay

Introduction

Roatan is the largest of Hondura's three bay islands. Coxen Hole or Roatan Town is the main city on Roatan and is located 2 miles west of Mahogany Bay.

Where You're Docked

Cruise ships dock at two main terminals. A new cruise center beside Mahogany Bay beach is used by Carnival and its brands including Princess and Holland America. NCL and Royal Caribbean will probably dock at a second terminal by Coxen Hole. The terminal here has a bank with ATM, restaurants, a duty free store and car rental agencies. A cruise ship schedule is available at the port website.

Money and Tipping

Hondura's currency is the lempira (HNL). USD are widely accepted on the island though change may be given in lempira. Tips of 10-20% are expected when dining.

Local Transportation

You can take a chair lift from the cruise welcome center to Mahogany Bay beach or walk. The cost is $12 USD for an all day pass. Taxis and car rentals are available if you want to explore other parts of the island. Taxi fares need to be negotiated in advance and tend to be higher for cruise ship passengers. Check the Roatan Guide linked under "Where You're Docked" for updated info on transportation options from Coxen Hole cruise terminal.
