Salalah, Oman

Perfume and Incense Souq

Salalah is famous for the city's role in the ancient frankincense trade. Oman is a Muslim country so dress conservatively.

Where You're Docked

Cruise ships dock at a port approximately 8 miles west of the city. The only way to get into the city is by taxi or on a tour. A shuttle is provided to the port gate. Taxi drivers at the gate are mainly interested in taking you on a city tour for $80 USD (Apr 2012) and may ask for the same rate just to go into the city.

Money and Tipping

Oman's currency is the Omani Rial (OMR). US dollars may be accepted in the market. A small (10%) tip is appreciated when dining in restaurants.

Local Transportation

Salalah is fairly small and there is no public transport.

  • There is a gold souq a couple of blocks north
