Salalah, Oman

Perfume and Incense Souq

Introduction

Salalah is famous for the city's role in the ancient frankincense trade. Oman is a Muslim country so dress conservatively.

Where You're Docked

Cruise ships dock at a port approximately 8 miles west of the city. The only way to get into the city is by taxi or on a tour. A shuttle is provided to the port gate. Taxi drivers at the gate are mainly interested in taking you on a city tour for $80 USD (Apr 2012) and may ask for the same rate just to go into the city.

  • There is a gold souq a couple of blocks north
  • The port has a small supermarket, electronics shop and some restaurants. A souvenir seller may set up on the pier.
